Set on Essex Place Square, W4, Chiswick House Day Nursery is close to Chiswick Park station, with Turnham Green just across the road. We’re open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm.
You’ll find us directly opposite Sainsbury’s, with free parking available for drop-off and collection. And while we have plenty of green space nearby, our rooftop garden is a real part of everyday nursery life, giving children space to play, explore and spend time outdoors throughout the day.
Well-being at Chiswick starts with the calmer corners of the day. Mealtimes are relaxed and social, with nutritious meals and snacks that encourage children to try new foods, and our yoga and mindfulness classes and sensory room give children somewhere to slow down when the day feels big.
Families play a real part in this too. Our nursery app sends regular updates on activities, meals and learning experiences, and we run stay-and-play sessions and parent events through the year so you can see nursery life for yourself and get to know other families.
Children at Chiswick move between the Splat Room for messy play, the Art School for daily creativity and the Cooking School, where recipes double as early maths. Forest School sessions connect children with nature, and Spanish class, musical movement and yoga fill out the week. Regular outings take children into Chiswick to visit parks, shops and local attractions.
Our playrooms at Chiswick nursery are designed around each stage of Early Years development, with each space offering room for exploration, creativity and learning through play. Children move between rooms based on their development, at a pace that suits them individually, and our preschool room focuses on independence, social development and getting ready for school.
Beyond the playrooms, the nursery has a number of dedicated spaces. Our cosy reading area, with comfortable seating and a wide range of books and story props, is where children build language, concentration and imagination. The Splat Room takes the mess out of messy play, the Loose Parts Room offers natural resources for open-ended imaginative play, and the Sensory Room gives children a calming place to go when things feel overwhelming.
Outdoor space
Our large rooftop garden is the favourite. It has bikes, an assault course and a lookout area where toddlers spend happy stretches watching the trains go by, alongside plenty of space for movement, coordination and fresh air.
We also have an outdoor classroom, where children pull on wellies and raincoats and carry on learning outside whatever the weather. Turnham Green, directly opposite the nursery, gives us more green space for outdoor activities.
Consistent care is what we aim for at Chiswick. Children are supported by colleagues who understand Early Years development, know each child’s individual needs, and create an inclusive environment where every child is valued and settled enough to get on with learning.
Our Early Years education is built around how children actually learn, in a carefully planned environment where they are encouraged to explore and be creative. Enriching activities support communication, creativity and physical development, and we work closely with families on supported transitions, including the move into primary school.
We believe children learn most when they are following their own questions. Our child-led approach at Chiswick House is inspired by the Curiosity Approach, with a loose parts room of natural resources and a rooftop garden above the streets of Chiswick. Children explore, create and grow in confidence at their own pace.
Bringing two children to one place in Chiswick saves a lot of morning juggling. Our rooms are arranged over a compact site with a shared rooftop garden, so an older sibling will often catch sight of a younger one during outdoor play. Where we have availability, we will always try to find room for a sibling.
Chiswick House Day Nursery and Preschool is held together by a team who stay, guided by Nursery Manager Gemma Williams. Many colleagues have been here for years, which means children see the same familiar faces as they move up, and families build a real relationship with the people caring for their child.
