Learning and exploring outdoors

Forest School-inspired learning helps children connect with the outdoors through hands-on experiences, exploration and play. By spending time in natural environments, children can investigate their surroundings, pursue their interests and learn through direct experience.

Many of our nurseries incorporate elements of the Forest School approach, using outdoor activities and nature-based experiences to encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence.

What is Forest School?

Forest School is an approach to learning that takes place in natural environments, such as woodland areas, gardens and outdoor spaces. It encourages children to learn through exploration, discovery and practical experiences.

Rather than following a fixed programme, activities are often guided by children's interests, allowing them to investigate the world around them, ask questions and develop new skills in meaningful ways. Sessions are designed to support confidence, independence and a positive connection with nature.
