Welcome to Toad Hall Day Nursery and Preschool in Rayleigh, a warm and welcoming early years setting where children are at the centre of all we do. We create a safe, nurturing, home from home environment where children aged 0 to 5 years can feel settled and confident.

Our nursery is supported by a caring and highly qualified team who are passionate about creating a calm, happy setting where children feel secure, form strong relationships and can grow and thrive.

We are proud of our ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating, reflecting our commitment to excellence.

Our location

Toad Hall Day Nursery and Preschool is a purpose‑built site with a home from home environment, located within the scenic grounds of Wyburn Primary School in Rayleigh. The nursery is easy to reach by car and is also accessible via direct bus routes from Southend‑on‑Sea and nearby areas.

About Our Nursery

Curriculum

Our curriculum at Toad Hall Nursery and Preschool has been developed using the natural environment as a basis for learning, following the Hygge Curriculum with the Curiosity Approach thread throughout. In line with Hygge, our neutral decor ensures calm, comfortable and fun classrooms. Books are key tools in our children’s learning with an overall focus on wellbeing and happiness for every child. This ensures we provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps our children to become curious learners.

Team

We have a highly qualified and skilled team with experienced SENCO qualified staff and amazing childcare practitioners to ensure all children are supported with excellence. Our team are communication champions which ensures smooth running of our nursery and strong relationships with colleagues and families. Many of our staff have progressed from apprentices and worked up to more senior roles. We are passionate about mentoring and helping future generations of early years childcare practitioners grow into their desired field!

Parent Partnership

We have an open door policy with our families to support communication. We use our nursery app for daily communication and keeping you connected with your child’s activities, meals, milestones and easy access to photos and notes from our caring colleagues. We provide online training and support sessions to help with milestone moments in children’s lives, such as potty training and starting big school. We also offer stay and play sessions for families, including grandparents, as well as regular update meetings.

Playrooms

Toad Hall Day Nursery and Preschool has four bright and spacious playrooms designed to meet the needs of each stage of development. These are known as Otters for babies, Toads for toddlers, Badgers for preschool children and Moles for older preschool children. Children move between rooms based on their readiness, supporting confidence and smooth transitions. We also have a dedicated sensory room which provides a calm space for quiet time or more focused support when needed.

Garden

Our outdoor area is set within woodland‑style grounds and has been carefully designed to encourage exploration and active play. Children enjoy access to climbing equipment, a mud kitchen, sand pit, gardening area and smooth safety surfaces. Outdoor play supports physical development, wellbeing and children’s natural curiosity.

Activities

Boogie Mites sessions are a lively and fun part of children’s days at our nursery. These music and movement sessions encourage children to express themselves through dance and rhythm, supporting physical coordination, confidence and social skills in a spacious environment with plenty of room to move and play. We are also delighted to welcome regular visits from Harley the therapy dog, giving children calm, positive interactions that support emotional development.

Community Outings

We love taking children on regular community outings to explore the local area. Families are invited to join us as helpers, allowing children to enjoy visits to places such as the local library while building confidence, curiosity and strong connections with their community.
