Welcome to Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Writtle, on Fox Burrows Lane in this picturesque village just outside Chelmsford. We welcome children from birth to 5 years and are open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6:30pm.
Opposite ARU College and University and a short walk from Hylands Park, the nursery has bus links into Chelmsford city centre and convenient access to the A414 and A12. Our village location gives children the surroundings of Writtle, while keeping the nursery well connected for families travelling into Chelmsford and beyond.
Spending time outdoors is an important part of nursery life at Writtle. Free-flow access gives children regular opportunities to move between indoor and outdoor experiences, while time under the trees, in the garden and exploring the local village provides plenty of opportunities for active play and discovery.
Through the GrandirUK App, families receive updates about their child’s meals, naps, activities and milestones, helping them stay connected with their nursery day.
Families are also invited to share in nursery life through Easter and Christmas celebrations and summer graduation ceremonies. Our lending library extends this connection beyond the nursery, giving families books to take home and enjoy together.
Children at Writtle enjoy a varied mix of experiences, including Forest School, Balanceability, Boogie Mites, baby yoga and Foundations for the Future, alongside seasonal activities and celebrations that families can join throughout the year.
Regular outings are an important part of nursery life too, with walks to the duck pond, local parks, the village green and nearby fields. These experiences give children opportunities to explore nature, spend time outdoors and become familiar with the places around their local community.
Our Writtle nursery has spacious, bright playrooms, alongside a communal area with a fish tank and Giant African Land Snails that give children opportunities to observe and discover more about living things.
Children move into their next room when they are developmentally and emotionally ready, rather than simply because they have reached a particular age. Free-flow play gives children opportunities to make choices, follow their interests and explore different experiences throughout the nursery day.
Outdoor space
Our garden areas are surrounded by trees, with plenty of opportunities for active play, exploration and discovery. Growing areas give children the chance to care for plants including roses and ferns, observing how they grow and change over time. Free-flow access also makes outdoor play a natural part of the nursery day.
Forest School extends these experiences further into the natural environment. Children can explore plants, shrubs, trees and wildlife through hands-on experiences that encourage investigation, problem-solving, working with others and growing independence.
Our approach to care starts with recognising each child as an individual, with their own interests, abilities and stage of development. Children are given opportunities to make choices, explore independently and move between experiences throughout the nursery day.
Our team observe children closely, giving them space to try things for themselves while recognising when they need encouragement, guidance or additional support.
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), drawing on Hygge, Montessori, Forest School and loose-parts approaches to create varied opportunities for children to learn through play and exploration.
Indoors, thoughtfully arranged spaces and open-ended resources give children time to explore their interests and make choices. Outdoors, Forest School and experiences in the natural environment encourage hands-on discovery, giving children different opportunities to develop their physical, social and thinking skills.
Outdoor learning is a central part of nursery life at Writtle. Forest School gives children regular opportunities to explore and learn in the natural environment, while Montessori, Hygge and loose-parts approaches help shape the experiences and spaces available indoors.
With village fields and trees nearby, children have plenty of opportunities to connect with the natural world. Through Forest School and outdoor exploration, they can investigate, solve problems, work alongside others and develop the confidence to try new things.
For families with more than one child, having siblings at Writtle means one drop-off and pick-up, while each child can enjoy a room suited to their own age and stage.
Our shared communal area, with its fish tank and Giant African Land Snails, and the nursery gardens give brothers and sisters opportunities to see each other and share parts of their nursery day, even when they are in different rooms.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space in the appropriate room, we will always look at the options for welcoming brothers and sisters together.
Led by Nursery Manager Hayley, our team at Writtle bring a broad range of qualifications and experience to the nursery, including Level 3 childcare qualifications, Level 3 Forest School Leadership, Level 3 SENDCo and Qualified Teacher Status.
This range of expertise supports different parts of nursery life, from Forest School and outdoor learning to children who may need additional support with their learning and development.
