About Our Matford Green Nursery
Our curriculum
Our curriculum blends the Reggio Emilia approach with the calming, nurturing principles of Hygge, creating a warm learning environment where children learn through exploration, imagination, and meaningful experiences. These approaches support the Early Years Foundation Stage, helping children develop essential skills across all areas of learning.
We also incorporate our key bespoke educational programmes; Sow and Grow, Make and Bake, Health and Self, Innovate and Investigate, and Move and Groove, offering a rich range of activities that encourage independence, problem‑solving, and creativity.
Children enjoy regular outdoor learning, including nature walks and opportunities to explore our garden, supporting physical development, curiosity, and a love of the outdoors.
Our provision supports children with special educational needs, ensuring every child receives tailored guidance and feels included, valued, and understood.

Our team
Our dedicated team brings extensive early years experience, creating a nurturing environment where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged. Many of our practitioners have been with us for years, including our nursery manager who has worked for the company for over two decades. Their passion is reflected in the strong relationships they build with children and families.
We invest in continuous professional development, including first aid training and early years qualifications, ensuring our team remains confident, knowledgeable, and committed to delivering high‑quality education and care.
Parent partnerships
We believe in working closely with families to support each child’s development and well-being. Our Grandir UK provides regular updates on children’s education journey, routines, activities, and achievements, helping parents stay connected to their child’s day. We also celebrate children’s achievements
We also host stay and play sessions, parents’ evenings, open days, Santa’s Grotto, graduation celebrations, and support groups for families. Our lending library encourages bedtime reading and supports language development at home.
Our facilities
Our purpose built nursery offers a safe, modern, and engaging environment with five playrooms designed for different age groups. The building includes a sensory room, disability access lift, air conditioning, underfloor heating, and a well‑equipped kitchen where our chef prepares nutritious meals daily.
Playrooms
Each room is thoughtfully designed to support children’s development and interests. Our Owl Room provides a calm, nurturing space for our youngest children, complete with a balcony area that offers a peaceful place to explore.
The Peepo Room continues this homely feel with a warm, sensory‑rich environment that encourages early discovery. As children grow in confidence, the Gruffalo Room supports their first steps into independence and early learning. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Room is designed to spark curiosity, offering direct access to the garden for hands‑on outdoor exploration. Finally, our Hairy Maclary Room (preschool room) prepares children for their transition to reception class, with engaging activities and direct outdoor access that promote physical development and school readiness. Transitions between rooms are based on each child’s readiness, with practitioners working closely with families to ensure every move feels smooth, supportive, and positive.

Outdoor space
Our garden is one of the most loved features of our nursery, encouraging children to let their imaginations run free. Children enjoy a mud kitchen, vegetable patch, lookout tower, walk‑in sandpit, water play, and natural shaded areas. These spaces focus on children’s interests, encourage exploration, physical development, and imaginative play, helping children through hands‑on experiences.
Activities
Our nursery children enjoy a wide range of activities including Sing and Sign, Boogie Mites, yoga, and sessions from our educational programmes. These experiences support communication, physical development, creativity, and confidence.
Community outings
We take regular nature walks around Exeter, often visiting the nearby river where children can explore, observe wildlife, and enjoy fresh air. These outings enrich children’s learning and enable children to connect with the world around them.
