Welcome to Dicky Birds Day Nursery Claremont Road, set in a converted building in a quiet spot just off the main road in Surbiton. We welcome children from 0 to 5 years and are open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm.
Our Surbiton nursery is within walking distance of Surbiton station and close to Claremont Gardens and local shops, making it well placed for families travelling to nursery as part of their daily commute.
Set back from the main road, the nursery offers a quieter setting while keeping families close to the station and everything Surbiton has nearby.
Wellbeing at Claremont Road is supported through the everyday moments that shape a child’s nursery day. Our on-site chef prepares fresh, nutritious meals using balanced menus, while relaxed, sociable mealtimes give children opportunities to serve themselves, enjoy food together and develop independence.
Families can keep up with their child’s activities, learning experiences and development milestones through the GrandirUK App. We also hold parent evenings and events throughout the year, creating regular opportunities for families and our team to spend time together and talk about their child’s nursery experience.
Open communication is an important part of how we work with families. Alongside the updates we share, our team are always available for a conversation about how a child is getting on.
Daily Boogie Mites sessions get children listening, moving and enjoying music at Claremont Road. Children also take part in PE, creative play and music, alongside our Move and Groove, Make and Bake, Innovate and Investigate, Health and Self and Sow and Grow programmes.
Regular outings take children beyond the nursery and into the local Surbiton community. Trips include visits to the park and local train station, as well as walks to the grocery store to choose and buy ingredients for cookery activities.
These everyday experiences give children opportunities to explore familiar places, develop practical skills and connect what they are learning at nursery with the world around them.
Our nursery is set in a converted building on Claremont Road, with dedicated rooms designed around the needs of each age group. Resources are arranged so children can find and choose what they need, giving them growing opportunities to explore, make choices and develop independence.
Children move between rooms when they are developmentally and emotionally ready, rather than simply reaching a particular age. This gives each child time to become comfortable and confident before moving into their next nursery space.
Outdoor space
Our free-flow garden gives children regular opportunities to move between indoor and outdoor play throughout the day. In our growing garden, children can plant, care for and watch what they have sown develop over time, while outdoor play remains part of everyday nursery life throughout the year.
Beyond the garden, our Forest School sessions take place at Walton Firs in Surrey, where we have our own allocated space. Children can build dens, walk through the woods and look for wildlife, giving them hands-on opportunities to solve problems, work together and build confidence in a natural environment.
Our lending library gives families a regular choice of books to take home and enjoy together, while children also have opportunities to experience different languages as part of nursery life.
High standards of care underpin everyday nursery life at Claremont Road. Our team get to know each child’s routines, preferences and individual needs, helping to provide familiar, consistent care throughout their day.
We work closely with families too, with open, regular communication about how their child is settling in, what they are learning and the relationships they are building with other children.
Our approach to early years education at Claremont Road is centred around each child, bringing together play, purposeful learning and exploration. Activities respond to children’s interests and curiosity, giving them opportunities to develop communication, physical skills and early learning at their own pace.
As children grow, we support them to become increasingly independent and confident, developing skills they can draw on as they prepare for school.
We believe curiosity has space to grow in a calm environment. Our converted nursery on Claremont Road is set away from the main road, creating a quieter setting for children to play, explore and learn at their own pace.
Free-flow access to the garden gives children more freedom to move between indoor and outdoor play, allowing their ideas and interests to continue across both spaces. This gives children plenty of opportunities to make choices, follow their curiosity and grow in confidence.
Having brothers and sisters at Claremont Road can make nursery life simpler for families, with one drop-off in Surbiton. As our nursery is set in a converted house, rooms are close together and children share the free-flow garden, giving siblings opportunities to see each other during the day.
Each child can enjoy experiences suited to their own age and stage while still having the familiarity of a sibling nearby. Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space, our team will be happy to explore the options with families.
Interim Nursery Managers Jana Tomanova and Leah Wright currently lead the team at Dicky Birds Claremont Road, where our Early Years professionals work closely together to provide familiar, consistent care throughout each child’s nursery day.
Team members are trained to deliver Boogie Mites sessions across all age groups, bringing music and movement into children’s everyday experiences. Our qualified SENCo works closely with the wider team and families to understand each child’s individual needs and provide appropriate support.
