Welcome to Dicky Birds Day Nursery Brighton Road, located in Indigo Square in Surbiton. We welcome children from birth to 5 years and are open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm.
Our Surbiton nursery is a short walk from Surbiton station, with direct links into central London, and close to local green spaces including Claremont Gardens and Victoria Park. The River Thames is also nearby, placing us within easy reach of some of Surbiton’s familiar local spaces.
Our team get to know children and families well, creating a friendly, welcoming environment from the moment you arrive.
Fresh food and time outdoors are an important part of everyday nursery life at Brighton Road. Our on-site chef prepares fresh, nutritious meals each day, and relaxed, social mealtimes give children opportunities to develop independence and positive eating habits alongside their friends.
We hold regular parent evenings and share daily updates through the GrandirUK App, helping families stay connected with their child’s nursery day.
Our parent information shed in the nursery grounds provides practical guidance for families on everything from weaning, teething and dental visits to bigger changes such as welcoming a new baby, moving house or starting school.
Our lending libraries at the front and back of the nursery also give families a regular choice of books to take home and enjoy together.
Children at Brighton Road enjoy a varied range of experiences, including Boogie Mites, yoga, PE sessions, creative play and Forest School. Our Make and Bake, Innovate and Investigate, Move and Groove, Health and Self and Sow and Grow programmes provide even more opportunities to explore different interests and develop new skills.
Regular outings into Surbiton and nearby parks extend learning beyond the nursery, giving children opportunities to explore their local community and put their developing skills and confidence into practice.
Our nursery at Indigo Square has four bright, spacious rooms across two buildings, with each room arranged around a different age group and stage of development. The spaces give children plenty of opportunities to explore, make choices and learn through play.
Children move between rooms when they are developmentally and emotionally ready, rather than on a fixed date. This gives each child time to become comfortable with their new surroundings and the people caring for them.
Our Foundations room is designed for our oldest children, where they take part in our bespoke education programmes and develop the confidence, independence and skills they will draw on as they prepare for school.
Outdoor space
Our garden is used throughout the year, with plenty of opportunities to play, explore and learn outdoors. Children can get involved in planting through our Sow and Grow programme, explore the mud kitchen and discover a range of sensory features at their own pace.
Beyond the garden, children regularly explore local green spaces around Surbiton. Our Forest School sessions include experiences such as den building, nature walks and wildlife spotting, giving children hands-on opportunities to work together, solve problems and build confidence outdoors.
We also have a minibus for trips beyond the nursery, while our on-site chef prepares fresh meals each day. Lending libraries at both ends of the nursery give families a regular choice of books to take home and enjoy together.
Consistent, inclusive care is an important part of nursery life at Brighton Road. Our team get to know each child well, learning to recognise their individual needs, preferences and routines so they can provide care and support that feels familiar.
We work closely with families too, sharing the everyday details and involving them in conversations about their child’s care, learning and development. This helps create consistency between home and nursery and gives each child the support they need to feel secure and understood.
Our Early Years curriculum at Brighton Road is built around play, exploration and discovery, with a balance of purposeful learning and the flexibility to respond to each child’s interests.
Our Foundations for the Future programmes provide hands-on opportunities for children to develop independence, confidence and practical skills that support them as they prepare for school.
We believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when children are outdoors, exploring and asking questions. Forest School sessions are an important part of our approach at Brighton Road, giving children hands-on opportunities to investigate, problem-solve and learn through the natural world.
The green spaces around Surbiton provide even more opportunities to explore outdoors. By balancing purposeful experiences with the freedom to follow their curiosity, children can try new things, take appropriate risks and develop confidence through their own discoveries.
Having brothers and sisters at Brighton Road can make nursery life simpler for families, with one drop-off in Surbiton. Across our four rooms in two buildings, each child has a space designed around their age and stage while remaining part of the same nursery.
Siblings share our garden and are cared for by the same familiar team, giving them opportunities to see each other during the day while enjoying their own nursery experiences.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space, our team will do their best to accommodate brothers and sisters together.
Nursery Manager Julia leads the team at Dicky Birds Brighton Road, supported by qualified Early Years professionals who provide consistent care and learning throughout the nursery.
Our qualified SENCo works closely with the wider team and families to support children with additional needs. Every child also has a key person who gets to know them well, helping to provide individual care and support throughout their time at nursery.
