Welcome to Head Start Day Nursery, based at The Old School in Milton Keynes Village Hall on Willen Road. We welcome children aged 18 months to 5 years and are open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am to 2:45pm, and Tuesday from 8:30am to 1:30pm.
Head Start Day Nursery has been part of Milton Keynes Village for almost 30 years, giving us strong connections with the local community and the families we support. Green space is right outside our door, and parking is available for families at drop-off and pick-up.
Helping children feel comfortable and familiar with nursery life is an important part of the care we provide at Head Start Day Nursery. Our sessions have a calm, familiar rhythm, with a nutritious breakfast and snacks provided during the day, alongside regular opportunities to spend time outdoors in the garden or on the village green.
Time outdoors gives children space to move, play and be active, whether running, climbing or exploring the world around them.
Strong relationships with families are important too. We keep families updated on their child’s development, progress and daily experiences through conversations with our team and updates on the GrandirUK App. Regular communication helps us share what we are seeing at nursery and understand what is happening at home, supporting a consistent approach to each child’s care and development.
Children at Head Start Day Nursery enjoy creative experiences, purposeful activities and plenty of active play, alongside yoga and regular Forest School sessions that give them opportunities to explore and learn about the natural world.
Time on the village green is a regular part of nursery life, giving children space to move, play and develop physical skills while spending time outdoors at the heart of their local community.
Head Start Day Nursery is based in The Old School at Milton Keynes Village Hall, with spaces designed around children at different ages and stages. Our Busy Bees room provides a calm, nurturing environment for our youngest children, with opportunities to play, explore and develop at their own pace.
As children grow, they move into our preschool space, where experiences encourage growing independence and confidence alongside the skills that help prepare them for school. Each space is thoughtfully arranged with resources and experiences suited to the children using it.
Outdoor space
Our dedicated garden sits just outside the Village Hall and includes a mud kitchen and planting and growing area. Children can dig, create their own mud recipes and get involved in planting and caring for what they grow, observing how plants change through the seasons.
Beyond the garden is the village green, giving children further opportunities for outdoor play, movement and exploration within the local community.
Head Start Day Nursery has held Eco-School accreditation since 2020. Our growing area gives children hands-on opportunities to explore how plants grow and learn about caring for the natural world around them.
Head Start Day Nursery has been part of Milton Keynes Village for almost 30 years, building long-standing connections with local families and the wider community.
That sense of familiarity is reflected in the care we provide. Our team take time to get to know each child and their family, helping them notice changes, understand individual needs and keep communication open when something needs to be discussed.
At Head Start Day Nursery, children learn through play, exploration and discovery, with experiences that support communication, social skills, confidence and growing independence.
Our environment draws on elements of the Curiosity Approach and Hygge, with calm, thoughtfully arranged spaces and opportunities for children to explore and follow their interests. Forest School complements this approach with hands-on outdoor experiences that encourage children to investigate, problem-solve and try new things.
We believe a village nursery should feel connected to the community around it. Head Start Day Nursery has been part of Milton Keynes Village for almost 30 years, with the village green extending opportunities for exploration and outdoor learning beyond the nursery.
Inside, our environment draws on elements of the Curiosity Approach and Hygge, with calm spaces and natural, open-ended resources that encourage children to explore, make choices and follow their interests. Children can then take that curiosity outdoors, with regular opportunities to explore the village green and the natural world around them.
For families with more than one child, having siblings together at Head Start Day Nursery can make the nursery routine simpler, with one drop-off and pick-up in Milton Keynes Village.
Our smaller setting and shared outdoor spaces give brothers and sisters opportunities to see each other during the day, whether in the garden or while spending time on the village green, while still enjoying experiences suited to their own age and stage.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space, our team will be happy to explore the options for each child.
Nursery Manager Carol leads the experienced, long-standing team at Head Start Day Nursery. Our team are qualified Early Years professionals and trained in first aid, bringing familiar faces and consistent relationships to children throughout their time at the nursery.
Both of our managers are SENCo trained and work with the wider team and families to support children with additional needs and inclusive practice across the nursery.
Every child also has a key person who gets to know them well, including their routines, interests and individual needs, and supports their learning, development and wellbeing throughout their time with us.

Have a question or want to talk through your options? Our friendly nursery teams are here to help and provide the guidance you need.
