Welcome to The Winchmore Hill Day Nursery, at the end of Green Lanes in north London. We are open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6:30pm.
You will find us close to local shops, including Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, and around a ten-minute walk from Winchmore Hill train station, making the nursery convenient for families commuting across London. Children are at the heart of nursery life, with a caring team focused on helping each child feel secure, supported and ready to explore.
Wellbeing is an important part of nursery life at Winchmore Hill. Our on-site chef prepares fresh, nutritious meals and snacks each day, following guidance from a registered paediatric dietitian. Our sensory room gives babies and under-twos opportunities for sensory activities and quieter moments, while regular yoga sessions offer older children a change of pace within the nursery day.
Strong relationships with families are important too. We keep communication open, sharing feedback and working together to support each child’s learning and development at nursery and at home.
The GrandirUK App keeps families updated on activities, meals, photos and development, while parent evenings, seasonal celebrations and preschool graduation give families opportunities to be involved in nursery life and share important moments with their child.
Art lessons with Ana, our trained art teacher, are a highlight of the week in our Visual Art Studio, giving children dedicated time and space to experiment with different materials, techniques and ideas. Children also enjoy regular yoga sessions and our kindness club, while sensory activities for under-twos offer opportunities to explore different textures, sounds and materials.
We get out into Winchmore Hill regularly too, with visits to local parks and the library for special reading time. Children also visit local shops to choose fresh ingredients and snacks to bring back to nursery, connecting everyday experiences in the community with life at the nursery.
The Winchmore Hill Day Nursery has five spacious playrooms arranged across two floors, each thoughtfully set up with age-appropriate resources and opportunities for play, movement and exploration. Each age group has a space designed around their stage of development, while remaining part of the wider nursery.
Alongside our playrooms, we have three dedicated spaces. Our sensory room gives under-twos opportunities for sensory play and quieter moments, while our separate sleep room provides babies with a dedicated space to rest away from the main activity of the nursery. Our Visual Art Studio is where children can paint, create and experiment with different materials, as well as enjoy art lessons with our trained art teacher.
Fresh, nutritious meals and snacks are prepared each day by our on-site chef, following guidance from a registered paediatric dietitian.
Outdoor space
Outdoor play is part of the daily routine here. Our enclosed garden gives children space to explore, be active and enjoy the outdoors through messy play, gardening and imaginative games.
Our bespoke pirate ship is a real feature of the garden, giving children opportunities to climb, move and bring imaginative games and shared stories to life.
Consistency is an important part of care at Winchmore Hill. Familiar faces, consistent standards and a steady daily rhythm help children know what to expect and become familiar with nursery life.
Our team take the time to get to know each child as an individual, supporting their routines, interests and needs as they settle in and throughout their time with us.
Our Early Years curriculum is child-centred and play-based, combining purposeful learning experiences with plenty of opportunities for exploration, creativity and discovery. Our team build on children’s interests, giving them opportunities to develop communication, physical skills, problem-solving and emotional development through play.
As children move into preschool, experiences increasingly support growing independence, confidence and the skills that help prepare them for their next stage and the transition to school.
We believe children learn best when they feel secure, understood and able to explore at their own pace. At Winchmore Hill, wellbeing, creativity and emotional development are woven through nursery life, with five playrooms offering space for children to follow their interests without being rushed.
Our youngest children also have access to a dedicated sensory room, with opportunities to explore different sounds, textures and materials. By creating an environment where children feel supported to explore, we give them the space to experiment, express their ideas and try something new.
For families with more than one child, Winchmore Hill means one drop-off and pick-up and one familiar team getting to know the whole family. Our five playrooms are spread across two floors, so brothers and sisters can each have a space suited to their own age and stage while still spending time together in the garden and around the pirate ship.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space in the appropriate room, we will always do what we can to find places for brothers and sisters together.
Helen, our Nursery Manager, leads an experienced Early Years team at Winchmore Hill. We invest in ongoing training and development, giving our team opportunities to build their knowledge, develop their skills and grow within their roles.
Our team take time to understand each child’s interests, stage of development and individual needs. Every child starts nursery with their own experiences and abilities, so this understanding helps the team shape their support around the individual child.
