Welcome to The West Finchley Day Nursery on Nether Street, in the heart of West Finchley. We are open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6:30pm.
You will find us a short distance from North Finchley High Street, with convenient access to local transport links and parks. Our modern, purpose-built nursery offers bright, welcoming spaces designed around the needs of children at different ages and stages.
Wellbeing at West Finchley is supported in different ways throughout the nursery day. Our sensory room provides a quieter space for sensory experiences and time away from the main activity, while our outdoor area gives children plenty of opportunities to move, play and be active. Yoga sessions offer older children another change of pace, with time for movement, balance and relaxation.
Strong relationships with families are an important part of nursery life too. The GrandirUK App keeps families connected with daily updates, progress reports and photos, helping them stay involved in their child’s experiences at nursery.
Throughout the year, we also invite families to join us for special events, festivals and activities, creating opportunities to spend time together and be part of the wider nursery community.
Children at West Finchley enjoy Spanish sessions, yoga and creative experiences in our dedicated Visual Arts Studio. Alongside these activities, there is plenty of time for imaginative play and child-led exploration, with resources that give children opportunities to follow their interests and try out their own ideas.
Regular outings take children beyond the nursery too, with visits to the local library, nearby parks and other places in the area. These experiences give children opportunities to explore their community, discover new environments and become more familiar with the world around them.
West Finchley Day Nursery is modern and purpose-built, with four large playrooms thoughtfully designed around the needs of different ages and stages. Their generous size gives children plenty of space to become absorbed in their play, explore different resources and follow their interests.
Beyond the playrooms, we have two specialist spaces. Our Visual Arts Studio is a dedicated place for painting, drawing and creative activities, giving children the freedom to experiment with different materials, techniques and ideas. Our sensory room offers a quieter environment, with sensory experiences and space for children to spend time away from the main activity when they need it.
Children move into their next room when they are developmentally and emotionally ready, with our team and families working together to agree the right time for each child.
Outdoor space
Our outdoor area gives children plenty of opportunities for active play and exploration, with a mud kitchen for messy, imaginative play and a climbing frame where they can challenge their physical skills.
Children have regular opportunities to spend time outdoors throughout the year, whether they are climbing, exploring, creating or investigating the world around them. Experiences outside can also spark new interests and ideas that children continue to explore when they return indoors.
Quality of care at West Finchley shows in the detail. Our team take time to get to know each child as an individual, including their routines, interests and needs, so their care can be shaped around them throughout the day.
That same attention carries through to our communication with families. We share meaningful updates about each child’s experiences, giving families a clearer picture of their day and helping to build strong, trusting relationships between home and nursery.
Our curriculum at West Finchley is brought to life through five education programmes: Health & Self, Innovate & Investigate, Move & Groove, Make & Bake, and Sow & Grow. Together, they give children opportunities to explore wellbeing, problem-solving, movement, food and the natural world through practical, age-appropriate experiences.
Our team adapt these experiences around each child’s age, stage and interests, supporting the development of communication, independence and other skills that help prepare them for their next stage of learning and, eventually, school.
We believe a child’s learning should be shaped around them, not the other way round. At West Finchley, our five education programmes give children opportunities to cook, grow, move, investigate and learn more about looking after themselves, bringing learning to life through practical, hands-on experiences.
Our team adapt these experiences around each child’s age, stage and interests, giving them opportunities to make choices, try things for themselves and develop growing confidence and independence.
For families with more than one child, having siblings at West Finchley means one drop-off and pick-up and one familiar team getting to know the whole family. Our four large playrooms are all under one roof, so brothers and sisters can each enjoy a space suited to their own age and stage while still having opportunities to see each other during the day and share the same outdoor space.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space in the appropriate room, we will always do what we can to find places for brothers and sisters together.
Led by Nursery Manager Taspia, our experienced team are at the heart of West Finchley. They take time to get to know each child, bringing warmth, care and Early Years knowledge to their learning and development.
We invest in ongoing professional development, while a collaborative approach gives our team opportunities to share knowledge, learn from one another and provide consistency for children throughout their time at the nursery.
