Curriculum

At our nursery, we put the children at the centre of our curriculum, allowing them to follow their current interests; and we plan exciting and engaging learning activities around this to support their development. We have a flexible approach to how we teach our children and use a variety of approaches to help them reach their full potential.

Team

We have a long-standing staff team at our Whitwick Day Nursery and Preschool. Over 50% of the staff are qualified to at least level 3 with the manager holding a BA Honours Degree. Over half of the remaining team are qualified for level 2 and we also have a level 3 qualified SENCo, as well as a qualified and very experienced nursery chef.

Parent Partnership

Our relationship with our families is extremely important to us. We offer resources to help facilitate learning at home such as take home activity cards linked to the child’s current interests and a lending library. We also have an inviting family room with information and leaflets regarding children’s development, support services, local information. This is also somewhere family members can sit and meet with a member of staff to discuss their childcare options, ask questions or seek advice on challenges.

Through our nursery app, we maintain regular communication between our nursery staff and families. Parents receive photo and video updates, keeping them connected to their child’s day.

Facilities

Playrooms

Our Whitwick Day Nursery and Preschool features four base playrooms. Our Baby Room caters with a separate area for the babies to sleep peacefully and access to a small outdoor space. Following on, we have our Toddler Room which is a nice spacious room, allowing the children to have plenty of access to a variety of activities and resources throughout the day. We then have our Nursery Room for our older toddlers, which has free-flow access to allow the children to build their skills with toilet training and the freedom to develop independence. Finally, we have our Preschool Room which is designed to develop the children’s independence as they make choices of what resources and activities they would like to use and do.

Garden

We have a large outdoor space with two different sized climbing frames and slides for all children to enjoy, a growing garden and a mud kitchen. Children love our growing garden! They enjoy tending to the plants and produce, and feel immense pride in what they grow.

Activities

From Sing and Sign to our cooking activities, we host a wide variety of activities for all our children to enjoy at our Whitwick Day Nursery & Preschool! Along with Sing & Sign, we hold both Boogie Mites and Mini Mites classes so all our children can dance and sing along to their favourite songs. We also focus on key educational programmes such as a Make & Bake where children learn how to cook and bake age-appropriate meals from scratch.

Community Outings

Alongside activities, we also try and incorporate regular community outings into children’s days. These are a great method for building connections with the local community, fostering a love for the outdoors and building confidence within the children.
