Welcome to The Laurels Day Nursery on Melton Road in Queniborough, Leicester. We care for children from 0 to 5 years and are open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6:00pm.
You will find us within walking distance of local shops and amenities, with Syston train station nearby and convenient access from Melton Road. Our village setting and thoughtfully arranged rooms create a comfortable, welcoming nursery environment, with spaces designed for children to play, explore and spend time at their own pace.
Food is an important part of wellbeing at The Laurels. Our chef prepares nutritious meals on site, following guidance from a registered dietitian, with rolling menus that change regularly to introduce children to a variety of foods, flavours and textures. We cater for individual dietary requirements, and mealtimes are relaxed, social occasions where children can enjoy eating together and develop growing independence.
Our newly refurbished sensory room provides a quieter environment for sensory experiences and time away from the main activity when children need it.
Strong relationships with families are important too. The GrandirUK App keeps families connected with updates, photos and information about meals and key learning moments, helping them stay involved in their child’s experiences throughout the nursery day.
Children at The Laurels enjoy music and movement, Sing and Sign, yoga and creative play, alongside Make and Bake and Sow and Grow sessions. Experiences are adapted around children’s ages and stages, giving them different opportunities to move, create, communicate and explore.
Outings into Queniborough village and nearby parks are also a regular part of nursery life. These experiences give children opportunities to explore beyond the nursery, become familiar with their local community and discover different places and environments.
The Laurels has bright, welcoming playrooms designed around different ages and stages of development. Each space is thoughtfully arranged with age-appropriate toys, books and resources, giving children plenty of opportunities to explore their interests, play and make their own discoveries.
Our baby room has a built-in milk kitchen, supporting feeding routines within the room for our youngest children. We also have a newly refurbished sensory room, providing a quieter environment for sensory experiences, focused activities and time away from the main playrooms when children need it.
Outdoor space
Our large garden gives children plenty of room to play, move and explore outdoors. A mud kitchen, climbing equipment and planting areas provide opportunities for imaginative play, physical activity and hands-on experiences, including growing vegetables and caring for plants throughout the seasons.
Separate areas are designed around the needs of babies and toddlers, giving children outdoor spaces suited to their age and stage. Preschool children have free-flow access directly from their playroom into the garden, giving them opportunities to choose between indoor and outdoor experiences as part of their nursery day.
Care at The Laurels is warm, nurturing and shaped around each child as an individual. Our team take time to get to know their routines, interests and needs, creating a welcoming environment where children have plenty of opportunities to play, explore and enjoy their nursery day.
We also offer a choice of sessions, giving families greater flexibility to find a pattern of care that works around their week.
Our Early Years curriculum at The Laurels draws on Hygge and elements of the Curiosity Approach, creating a warm, thoughtfully arranged environment where children have time and space to explore, follow their interests and make their own discoveries.
Learning is shaped around each child’s age, stage and interests, giving them opportunities to develop at their own pace while building growing confidence, independence and skills that help prepare them for school.
We believe the environment around a child can make a meaningful difference to their nursery experience. At The Laurels, our approach draws on Hygge and elements of the Curiosity Approach, reflected in our neutral décor, thoughtfully chosen resources and spaces where children have time to explore at their own pace.
Children learn through play, exploration and hands-on experiences, both inside the nursery and beyond it. Our location in Queniborough gives children regular opportunities to explore the village, nearby parks and their local community as part of nursery life.
For families with more than one child, having siblings at The Laurels means one drop-off and pick-up on Melton Road and one familiar team getting to know the whole family. Brothers and sisters can each enjoy a playroom suited to their own age and stage, while still having opportunities to spend time together in the large garden.
The garden has separate areas designed around the needs of different ages and stages, including dedicated spaces for babies and toddlers and free-flow access for preschool children.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space in the appropriate room, we will always do what we can to find places for brothers and sisters together.
Led by Nursery Manager Natasha, our experienced team bring a broad range of Early Years knowledge and expertise to The Laurels. They take time to get to know each child and family, working closely together to provide familiar faces and consistent care throughout their time at nursery.
Our SENCo-trained practitioners work in partnership with families and the wider nursery team to understand individual needs and help provide appropriate support for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
