Our Services
On-Site Chef
Our menus are designed with children at the forefront and made fresh on-site by our chef, ensuring they are well-balanced and nutritious to support children’s growth and well-being.
Educational Programmes
We offer unique and engaging educational programmes designed to inspire and nurture young minds. In our Foundations room, we incorporate our educational programmes which include Health and Self, Make and Bake, Innovate and Investigate and Move and Groove and Sow and Grow.
Family Support
We have a parent information shed, located in the nursery grounds, where we provide valuable information to parents on topics such as weaning, teething, and visiting the dentist, as well as transition resources to support families. These resources offer a little helping hand when dealing with big life events such as welcoming a new baby, moving house or starting school. We also support our parents with lending libraries located at the front and back of the nursery, to ensure that families have access to a wide variety of books to continue their love for reading at home, as well as within the nursery.
Extracurricular Activities
Regular PE sessions keep our older children active and promote physical health and coordination. In our Foundations room, we do Yoga and Mindfulness sessions, Boogie Mites sessions, and our bespoke programmes: Make and Bake, Innovate and Investigate and Move and Groove. We recently developed an area where children can learn how to cultivate and nurture plants, as part of our Sow and Grow programme.
Forest School Sessions
Our Forest School sessions inspire children to explore and learn in a natural environment, sparking their sense of adventure and exploration. Through hands-on experiences, they engage in outdoor activities such as den building, nature walks, and exploring wildlife, all while enhancing important skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience.

Our Dicky Birds Day Nursery in Surbiton is located on Brighton Road, a short walk from local outdoor spaces including the River Thames and wonderful local parks; including Claremont Gardens, Victoria Park and St Andrews Park.
For our commuting parents, we are conveniently located only a 5-10 minute walk from Surbiton train station which goes straight to Central London. We are also within easy reach of Surbiton High Street and not far from Kingston Upon Thames.

At Dicky Birds Nursery, Surbiton, our curriculum is centred around the interests and learning needs of each child.
We provide quality childcare to nurture strong, confident and independent communicators, active and engaged learners, and critical thinkers.
We are inspired by a blend of educational theories and approaches, incorporating aspects of the Reggio Emilia Approach which allows children to express themselves within a home-from-home environment where children are viewed as having unlimited potential.
We encourage our children to explore the world around them, and we use our Pathway and Foundations for the Future framework to enrich every child’s learning journey, ensuring they are well-prepared for the next steps in their education.

Parent Partnerships
Our team forms strong bonds with families and keep them informed of children’s development and learning through regular parents evenings, curriculum information sessions, and regular updates on our nursery app.
Our nursery app enhances communication with our families and keeps you connected with your child’s daily activities, meals, and milestones.
It gives quick access to photos and notes from our dedicated staff. The app enables open communication for questions and feedback and means we can send you important announcements and reminders about special events.
Our aim is to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all families.

Our Facilities
Our Brighton Road, Surbiton nursery has four bright and spacious rooms, with lots of natural light, in two buildings, on our secure site. We have a separate entrance for babies, toddlers and preschool children and a useful buggy park for parents heading straight to work from drop off.
We have a fantastic garden with a much loved planting area and we are also only a short walk from other outdoor spaces.
Our Classrooms
Our four well-designed, purpose-built pods are uniquely placed to offer three separate entrances for different age groups into the nursery. We create a nurturing and stimulating environment in each area, allowing every child to flourish at their own pace.
Children transition through rooms based on their stage of development and individual readiness for the next challenge.
Ducklings – This room provides a nurturing, calm and cosy environment to support the needs of our youngest children.
Swans – This room is designed to meet the individual needs and interests of our older toddlers with encouraging them to explore and learn whilst they play. We support children to develop early independence skills and the confidence to have a go.
Robins – This thoughtfully designed, cosy lower ground floor room offers a warm, secure, and enriching environment. Carefully planned to inspire curiosity and confidence, it provides children with open-ended opportunities to explore, learn, and thrive.
Woodpeckers – In our Woodpeckers room, children continue to build their independence and begin to learn lifelong skills for learning through open ended questioning and challenging ideas and experiences. This room ensures your child is readily prepared for the transition to school by the end of their journey with us.
Our Outdoor Space
Our garden encourages exploration and play to continue outside for all age groups, helping children to develop essential gross and fine motor skills.
Children are eager to learn in the mud kitchen, concocting recipes and potions, experimenting with the water wall, or developing their observational skills in our bug hotel and learning about the different insects in the natural world.
There are numerous opportunities to engage in large scale mark making activities. As well as a separate cosy space in the garden for our babies to safely enjoy.

Boogie Mites sessions combine music, movement, and rhythm-based activities to support cognitive development, build social skills and to express themselves creatively.
Adventure Babies brings books to life through gentle sensory stimulation to support all round development and help your baby to fall in love with books and reading.
PE Sessions led by a dedicated sports teacher, providing our older children with fun and engaging sports activities promoting physical fitness, coordination and teamwork.
Forest School Sessions for our older children, we offer an incredible opportunity to connect with nature and explore the outdoors with our specialist Forest School Leader. These sessions inspire a love for the natural world through hands-on learning and discovery.
Regular Outings
Our children enjoy a daily walk outside of the nursery to see and engage with the world beyond our nursery setting.
Our regular local outings provide children with the chance to explore the community, learn about their surroundings, and enjoy new experiences.
Whether visiting parks, local attractions, or participating in community events, our outings enrich the children’s understanding of the world and support their physical and mental well-being.

Julia has worked in Early Years education for over 26 years, having started straight out of school where she completed her NNEB. Since then, she has completed a Foundation Degree in Management and Leadership in Early Years. Julia's passion is creating a warm and exciting environment to ensure that every child reaches their full potential. "It is so rewarding watching the children grow into their own unique characters and achieve their milestones."
