About Our Nursery
Curriculum
At The Old Barn, we deliver a varied and high‑quality Early Years curriculum that adapts to each child’s interests and developmental stage. Our approach supports children’s learning across all areas, helping them grow socially, emotionally, and physically. We draw inspiration from the Hygge Approach and Curiosity Approach, fostering creativity, independent thinking, and a love of learning. Led by an experienced nursery manager, all the staff work closely together to support children’s learning, wellbeing, and development. We have SENCo practitioners on site, ensuring children with additional needs receive tailored, thoughtful support.
Parent Partnerships
We value strong parent partnerships with open, honest communication and work closely with families to support children consistently between home and nursery. Our nursery app provides real‑time updates throughout the day, sharing information about learning, activities, and wellbeing. Families are also invited to take part in Stay and Play sessions, parents’ evenings, and special celebrations throughout the year. A lending library is available to help parents continue learning at home.
Playrooms
All playrooms at The Old Barn are located on the ground floor, offering easy access and a bright, spacious environment. Our rooms include Little Roosters (babies and younger toddlers) Little Chicklets (toddlers), and our Barn Owls (older toddlers). Each room is thoughtfully arranged with age‑appropriate resources to encourage play, learning, and exploration, with direct access to the outdoor garden.
Outdoor Play and Garden
Outdoor play is a key part of daily life at our nursery. All rooms benefit from free‑flow access to our large, well‑resourced garden, allowing children to move seamlessly between indoor and outdoor learning. Our outdoor space includes a dedicated baby garden with wetsuits provided for all weather, a tunnel and resources for under‑2s to support movement and curiosity and a spacious over‑2s garden with climbing frames, ropes, and balance equipment. Children develop physical confidence, coordination, and motor skills through outdoor play. We also have a lovely growing garden and mud kitchen encouraging creativity, exploration, and connection with nature.
