Chingford Forest Day Nursery and Preschool offers high‑quality Early Years education in a warm, nurturing, and inspiring environment. Set within a beautifully restored lodge house on the edge of Epping Forest, our nursery provides children with a safe, welcoming space where they can explore, grow, and develop with confidence.
Our approach is rooted in learning through play, nature, and meaningful experiences. With a dedicated team of highly qualified Early Years professionals, we support each child’s individual development while building strong, trusting partnerships with families.
Our location
Our nursery is located at Hawkwood Lodge on Yardley Lane, just moments from the beautiful Epping Forest. Families benefit from easy access to local transport links and nearby community spaces, making drop‑off and collection simple and convenient.
The nursery’s unique setting includes half an acre of outdoor space, a dedicated forest preschool cabin, and three separate garden areas. These natural surroundings play a central role in children’s daily learning and exploration.
About Our Nursery
Curriculum
Our curriculum is shaped by children’s interests, curiosity and natural desire to explore, following a play-based approach that supports early development, communication, independence and emotional wellbeing.
Children enjoy daily opportunities to learn outdoors, with regular forest-inspired activities that encourage problem-solving, resilience and a love of nature. Our preschool programme supports school readiness by nurturing early literacy and numeracy, strengthening social and emotional development, building confidence and creating meaningful opportunities for independence and self-expression.
Our sensory room, nature-rich environment, and hands-on learning experiences ensure that every child can develop at their own pace while feeling supported and valued.
Our Team
Our caring and experienced team is at the heart of our nursery, with many staff members having been with us for several years. This continuity helps create a warm, familiar environment where children feel secure and confident.
The team is made up of highly qualified Early Years professionals, including practitioners with specialist training in outdoor learning, alongside a dedicated Nursery Manager. All staff are committed to ongoing professional development, ensuring they continue to provide the highest standard of care and education.
Every child is supported by a key person who builds strong, trusting relationships with both children and families, helping to provide consistent care and personalised support.

Parent partnerships
We believe that strong partnerships with parents are essential to children’s wellbeing and development. We work closely with families through daily conversations and updates, alongside our nursery app, where we share photos, learning moments and important information about each child’s day.
We also provide regular parent meetings to discuss progress and next steps, while maintaining an open and welcoming environment where families feel comfortable asking questions or seeking advice whenever they need.
We value the trust families place in us and are committed to building a supportive, collaborative relationship from the very first visit.
Our facilities
Please note that these age ranges are intended as a guide. We carefully consider each child’s developmental and emotional stage before supporting their transition into the next room, ensuring the move feels natural and well-timed for them.
Our babies, aged 3 to 16 months, are based in the front room upstairs, with easy access to the sensory room next door, creating a calm and nurturing environment. Our older babies, aged 16 to 26 months, are cared for in the back room upstairs and also benefit from access to the sensory room as they continue to explore and develop.
Toddlers aged 2 to 3 years are based downstairs, where they enjoy direct access to our barked garden, supporting their growing independence and physical development. Our forest preschool children, aged 3 to 4 years, are based in a log cabin within our forest garden, where they benefit from a forest school-inspired environment that encourages outdoor learning and exploration.
Playrooms
We offer carefully designed playrooms that reflect children’s developmental needs at every stage. Our baby room provides a calm, nurturing space filled with sensory resources, soft areas and gentle opportunities for early exploration. As children grow, our toddler room offers a more stimulating environment with free-flow access to outdoor play, encouraging independence and supporting physical development.
In preschool, children enjoy a spacious and engaging room with dedicated areas for creative play, early literacy, problem-solving and activities that support school readiness. Each room is thoughtfully designed to feel warm, welcoming, and homely, helping children settle quickly and feel confident in their surroundings.
Outdoor play and nature
Outdoor learning is a core part of life at Chingford Forest Day Nursery. Our half-acre grounds feature three separate garden spaces, a dedicated forest preschool cabin 5and natural play areas designed for climbing, digging, and exploring, all supported by daily access to outdoor learning and nature-based activities.
Children also regularly explore the surrounding woodland, developing a deep connection with nature while building essential life skills through hands-on, real-world experiences.

Food and well-being
We promote healthy eating and positive wellbeing throughout the day. Children enjoy nutritious meals and snacks, supporting their growth, energy, and development. Mealtimes are relaxed, social experiences where children learn independence and good habits.
Activities
Children benefit from a wide range of enriching experiences, including sensory exploration, nature walks and outdoor discovery, cooking and baking activities, creative arts and imaginative play, as well as music, movement, and group activities.
These varied opportunities help children build confidence, spark curiosity and develop a lifelong love of learning.
