A new nursery is coming to Welwyn

Opening early 2027

A thoughtfully designed new nursery for babies, toddlers and preschool children, created within a building that has long been part of the Welwyn community.

Inside, welcoming spaces designed for early years learning will give children room to explore, create and grow. Outside, an extensive garden will make the most of childhood in the open air, with space for discovery, movement, imagination and adventure.

A first look at North Star

With construction well underway, North Star Welwyn is taking shape. Purposefully designed around young children, the nursery will bring together welcoming learning spaces and an extensive garden, with plenty of opportunities to play, explore and discover.

Images are architectural renders and are intended to show how the completed nursery may look.

A Welwyn landmark, reimagined

A familiar place, a new chapter

North Star Welwyn is being created within a former local pub that many in the community will remember.

Thoughtfully redesigned for a new generation, it will bring together purposeful early years spaces, natural light and easy access to outdoor learning.

Our ambition is to create a nursery where children feel at home, families feel welcome and new connections with the Welwyn community can grow.

A garden made for adventure

Room for big childhood adventures

The garden will be one of North Star Welwyn’s defining features, with plenty of space to run, climb, investigate, create and get closer to nature.

Designed for babies through to preschool children, it will offer room for big adventures, quiet discoveries and plenty of outdoor learning.

Because some of the best learning happens with muddy hands, curious minds and room to explore.

Designed around children

Purposeful spaces for every stage

North Star Welwyn is being thoughtfully designed around young children, from the flow of each room to the furniture, materials and resources within it.

Age-appropriate spaces will help babies, toddlers and preschool children feel secure and comfortable, with plenty of opportunities to play, explore and develop at their own pace.

Learning from the very beginning

Care and education, centred around your child

Children at North Star Welwyn will be supported through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with experiences shaped around their individual interests, development and needs.

Through play, exploration and everyday moments of discovery, children will be encouraged to learn at their own pace, supported by GrandirUK’s early years expertise and educational programmes.

A new nursery, with experienced support behind it

North Star Welwyn may be new, but it will not be starting alone.

As a GrandirUK Day Nursery, North Star will be supported by a wider network of early years, safeguarding, quality and training specialists who work alongside our nursery teams.

This gives the local team experienced support as they create a nursery shaped around the children, families and community they serve.

Locally led. Nationally supported.

Growing with Welwyn

A nursery we hope will feel part of Welwyn

Opening a nursery is about more than creating a new building.

As North Star takes shape, we want to build relationships with local families and become a positive part of the wider Welwyn community.

Over time, that means getting to know the people and places around us, creating local connections and building a nursery that reflects the community it serves.

The building already has its own place in Welwyn's story. We are excited to give it a new chapter.
