Welcome to Little Cubs Day Nursery on Old Woolwich Road in Greenwich, a short walk from Maze Hill station. We are open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, with fresh meals prepared on site each day.
Greenwich Peninsula and The River Gardens are around five minutes away on foot, with Charlton and Blackheath a short drive away. Our purpose-built nursery also has a large outdoor space, giving children plenty of room to play, explore and spend time outdoors in the heart of London.
Wellbeing is supported in different ways throughout the nursery day. Children spend time outdoors every day, with our large garden providing plenty of resources for active and imaginative play. Our sensory room offers a quieter space for a change of pace, while nutritious meals and snacks are prepared on site each day.
Keeping families involved in nursery life is important too. Through the GrandirUK App, families receive daily updates about what their child has been learning and experiencing, helping them stay connected with their nursery day.
Regular meetings and family events throughout the year create opportunities to spend time with the team, share in nursery life and talk about each child’s progress. We also welcome feedback from families, helping us understand what is working well and where we can continue to improve.
Children at Little Cubs enjoy a varied mix of experiences throughout the week, including music and movement, sensory play, role play, imaginative games, storytime, phonics and outdoor activities.
Regular outings extend these experiences beyond the nursery, with visits to nearby woodland, Greenwich Deer Park, The Queen’s Orchard, Greenwich Ecology Park and Mudchute Farm. These trips give children opportunities to explore nature, discover different environments and become more familiar with the world around them.
Visits to a local care home also bring different generations together, creating opportunities for children and residents to spend time together and build connections.
Our purpose-built nursery has dedicated rooms for different ages and stages, each thoughtfully arranged around children’s needs and development.
Alongside our main playrooms, we have a sensory room that provides a dedicated space for sensory exploration and quieter moments away from busier activities.
Outdoor space
Our large garden is a key part of nursery life, with children spending time outdoors every day throughout the year. The natural environment gives them plenty of space to explore, climb, dig and create their own games through active and imaginative play.
The garden includes an organic fruit and vegetable growing area, a mud kitchen and sandboxes. Planting and growing food gives children opportunities to care for something over time, observe how it changes and discover more about where food comes from.
Across the garden, children can move, investigate and use their imagination in different ways, making outdoor learning a natural extension of their experiences inside the nursery.
High-quality care at Little Cubs starts with knowing each child as an individual. Our practitioners take time to understand their interests, needs and stage of development, using what they observe to shape the experiences and support around them.
This responsive approach means planning can adapt as children’s interests and needs develop, while familiar routines provide consistency throughout the nursery day.
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with a child-led approach that gives children opportunities to explore their interests and learn through experiences that are meaningful to them.
Our practitioners observe each child and use what they learn about their interests, needs and development to shape future experiences and next steps. Outdoor learning is an important part of this approach too, with children spending time in our large garden every day.
Outdoor exploration is a big part of nursery life at Little Cubs, with children spending time outside every day throughout the year. Our purpose-built nursery has a large garden, giving children plenty of space to move, play and follow their interests outdoors.
Our child-led approach continues across the nursery, with practitioners noticing what captures each child’s curiosity and building on those interests through play and purposeful experiences. Regular outings extend that exploration into Greenwich, from the Deer Park to Mudchute Farm.
For families with more than one child, having siblings at the same nursery means one drop-off and pick-up, while each child can enjoy a room suited to their own age and stage.
Our purpose-built rooms give children their own spaces and experiences, while shared areas including the large garden and sensory room give brothers and sisters opportunities to see each other and share parts of their nursery day.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space in the appropriate rooms, we will always look at the options for welcoming brothers and sisters together.
Led by Nursery Manager Sheila, our experienced team bring a strong understanding of Early Years care and education to their roles. They take pride in providing high-quality care and building familiar, consistent relationships with the children they support.
Regular training and professional development help the team continue to build their knowledge and keep their practice up to date, supporting children’s individual needs, learning and development throughout their time at Little Cubs.
