Welcome to Lake House Day Nursery on Lake Road in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. We welcome children from 0 to 5 years and are open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:45pm.
You will find us on the corner of the roundabout, directly opposite Amelia Lodge and a short distance from Henleaze Lake. Our location gives families easy access to the nursery, while ad-hoc sessions and flexible hours offer options for families whose routines vary from week to week.
Children have opportunities to move between spaces and choose how they want to play throughout the day. Freshly prepared, balanced meals and snacks are served daily, while our secure garden gives children space for active outdoor play and exploration.
We keep families involved in nursery life through the GrandirUK App, parent evenings, workshops and family events throughout the year. Show-and-tell and family celebrations give children opportunities to share their experiences with the people important to them, while giving families a chance to take part in nursery life.
Children at Lake House enjoy a varied mix of experiences throughout the week, including nature walks, cooking, language groups, stories and creative activities.
Regular community outings extend these experiences beyond the nursery, with visits to local shops, parks, community services and nearby care homes. These trips give children opportunities to explore their local surroundings, discover new environments and become more familiar with the community around them.
Our nursery is organised into two main playroom groups, Bumble Bees and Dragonflies, with a range of connected rooms alongside them.
Because the rooms connect, children can move between spaces and activities, giving them opportunities to follow their interests and make choices about their play. The environment supports sensory play, exploration, creativity and discovery, with resources that encourage problem-solving and imaginative play. A consistent key person approach runs across the nursery, so children have a familiar adult supporting them wherever they are.
Children move into their next room when they are developmentally and emotionally ready, with our team working closely with families to support each transition.
Outdoor space
Our indoor-outdoor space is a central part of nursery life, with children able to move between inside and out throughout the day. This gives them opportunities to choose where they want to play and makes outdoor experiences a natural part of their everyday routine.
The garden combines play equipment with natural elements, giving children different ways to move, explore and test their physical skills. Having connected indoor and outdoor spaces also gives children opportunities to make choices, follow their interests and develop growing independence.
Good childcare at Lake House starts with noticing the small things. Our team give children time and encouragement to try things for themselves, learn from what happens and have another go, while staying attentive to what each child needs.
Open communication with families is an important part of our approach. We share regular updates about each child’s day and make time for conversations with families, so they have a clear picture of how their child is getting on.
Our curriculum combines In-The-Moment Planning, Montessori principles and the Curiosity Approach, alongside our bespoke education programmes.
Together, these approaches give children opportunities to develop independence, explore through hands-on experiences and express their creativity, while allowing learning to respond to each child’s individual interests and stage of development.
We believe children should be respected as capable individuals, with time and space to learn at their own pace. Our Swedish-inspired ethos and Montessori influences shape an environment where children can make choices, explore their interests and develop growing independence.
In-The-Moment Planning allows our team to respond to what captures a child’s interest on the day, rather than being limited by plans made in advance. By following children’s interests and giving them opportunities to make choices for themselves, we support their growing independence and confidence.
For families with more than one child, having siblings at Lake House means one drop-off and pick-up, while each child can enjoy spaces suited to their own age and stage.
With connected rooms and shared indoor-outdoor spaces, brothers and sisters have opportunities to see each other and share parts of their nursery day, even when they are in different groups.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space in the appropriate room, we will always look at the options for welcoming brothers and sisters together.
Our long-standing team are a familiar presence at Lake House, led by Nursery Manager Leanne. Many members of the team hold Level 3 Early Years SEND qualifications, bringing a broad range of knowledge and experience to supporting children’s individual needs.
Our consistent key person approach means every child has a familiar adult who takes time to get to know them, from their interests and routines to the ways they like to be comforted.
