Curriculum

At The Laurels day nursery our curriculum follows the Hygge Approach and the Curiosity Approach. In line with Hygge, our neutral decor ensures calm, comfortable classrooms, with a focus on well-being and happiness for every child. This helps us create a safe and nurturing nursery and preschool environment that inspires children to be curious learners.

Team

We are so lucky to have a passionate, highly experienced and established team who strive to create the most welcoming and nurturing environment for your child. Their years of experience in childcare ensures they have the knowledge required to care for children from many different backgrounds.

Our team are also SENCO trained and work in partnership with parents to provide the best care and support for children with special educational needs or disabilities. We strive to ensure every child feels loved, nurtured and included at The Laurels.

Parent Partnership

Our nursery app is a great way to maintain good communication with our families. It is a user-friendly platform that keeps you connected with your child’s activities, meals, and milestones each day, offering simple access to photos and notes from our caring team. The app enables seamless communication for questions or feedback. You can find important announcements and reminders about special events on the app too. Our goal is to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all families, and our nursery app plays a crucial role in achieving that. We also have Parents Evenings to share more about your child and their time at The Laurels.

Facilities

We have a fantastic range of facilities aimed to enhance your child’s learning journey. This includes five calm and neutral playrooms that are beautifully equipped for children aged up to 5 years. We have a large garden with a dedicated space for our babies and younger children. Our older children enjoy free flow play from their playroom into our fantastic garden.

Playrooms

We have five large playrooms with neutral décor, which feel bright and airy, yet homely, and offer a calm and welcoming environment for children. Each playroom is well equipped to meet their learning and development needs with activities such as small world, messy play, a home corner, reading corner and toys to spark curiosity at every age and stage.

We also have a newly refurbished sensory room on the first floor which all of our children can enjoy as a quiet space. Our baby room also has a built in milk kitchen.

Outdoor Space

We have a large garden to the rear of the nursery that includes a growing garden, a mud kitchen, climbing equipment and separate spaces for nursery and preschool children. Our babies and toddlers feel safe and secure in their own dedicated area while exploring and learning about the world around them. Preschool children have free flow access to our large garden from their playroom. This encourages outdoor play and helps them build confidence in their physical skills, with the support of our team.

Additionally, have a mud kitchen where we encourage children to explore nature. We have planting areas where we grow fresh vegetables and the children are encouraged to sow seeds and help take care of the seedlings.

Activities

We offer a wide choice of engaging activities to enhance children’s learning and prepare them for their next step. Boogie Mites classes aim to help children get moving, with music and movement to support their physical development. Sing and Sign introduces children to basic sign language, helping with communication skills and enhancing their vocabulary too. Yoga helps our children to stay calm and relaxed, whilst improving their strength and coordination and learning how to take control of their movement.

Make and Bake engages all the children’s senses, develops their fine and gross motor skills and encourages them to learn about food from all cultures as they bake their own food. Our Sow and Grow sessions connect children with the wonder of nature, as they learn and experience the growing process, from seed to plate.

We also offer Stay and Play sessions for our families and carers and we celebrate special events such as mothers day, fathers day, graduations, and Christmas!

Community Outings

Our children enjoy outings to the local village where they see and engage with daily life of people of Leicestershire. They also enjoy trips to parks in the surrounding area where they can explore and play in a change of scenery.
