Children’s wellbeing is considered throughout the nursery day at Hengrove, from nutritious meals prepared by our on-site chef to regular opportunities for outdoor play and quieter moments when children need a change of pace.
Our sensory area provides a dedicated space for sensory exploration and quieter experiences away from the busier parts of nursery life.
Through the GrandirUK App, families receive updates about their child’s day, routines, learning and progress, helping them stay connected with nursery life. Regular events and celebrations also give families opportunities to visit, spend time with the team and take part in nursery experiences.
Our lending library extends learning beyond the nursery too, with books for families to take home and enjoy together. Our team are also available to talk with families, share information and provide support throughout their child’s time with us.
Children at Hengrove enjoy a varied mix of experiences, including Sing and Sign and Boogie Mites, where music, signing and movement provide opportunities to explore early communication.
Arts and crafts, nature exploration and sensory play add further variety throughout the week. Children also take part in Forest School activities in our garden, with hands-on experiences including digging, building and exploring different ways to solve problems outdoors.
Our nursery on Wells Road is arranged over two floors, with bright, welcoming rooms designed around the different ages and stages of children’s development. Each room offers a range of resources and experiences that give children opportunities to explore, create and make choices throughout their nursery day.
Jelly Beans includes dedicated areas for creative play, early maths, music, stories and quieter moments, giving preschool children opportunities to follow their interests and make choices about their play and learning. Our sensory area is available to children of all ages, providing a quieter space for sensory exploration and a change of pace from the busier nursery environment.
Outdoor space
Our garden offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor play, exploration and discovery. Wigwams, climbing opportunities, creative play areas and natural materials give children different ways to move, investigate, imagine and play.
Children have regular opportunities to spend time outdoors throughout the year, including taking part in Forest School activities that encourage hands-on exploration, physical play and working alongside others.
Our on-site chef prepares fresh, balanced meals for children each day, while parking at the nursery helps make drop-offs and collections easier for families.
Quality of care at Hengrove is supported by the consistency of our team. Many of our practitioners have been part of the nursery for several years, giving children and families continuity and familiar faces throughout their time with us.
This long-standing team helps practitioners get to know each child as an individual, including their routines, interests and needs, so they can provide care and support that responds to each child as they develop.
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), combining planned activities with child-led play and giving children opportunities to follow their own interests. Experiences include creative play, nature exploration, early maths and literacy, music and movement.
Our education programmes add further variety to children’s learning, with experiences that support communication, growing independence and confidence. As children approach preschool age, these experiences also help them develop the skills and familiarity they can draw on as they prepare for the transition to school.
At Hengrove, getting to know each child as an individual is an important part of nursery life. Many of our team live locally and have been part of the nursery for several years, helping to create continuity and giving practitioners time to understand children’s interests, routines and individual personalities.
From this foundation, our Wells Road nursery combines child-led play with thoughtfully planned experiences, giving children opportunities to make choices, express themselves and develop their communication skills at their own pace.
For families with more than one child, having siblings at Hengrove means one drop-off and pick-up, while each child can enjoy the room and experiences suited to their own age and stage.
Brothers and sisters may be based in different rooms, such as Baby Beans and Jelly Beans, but shared spaces including the garden give them opportunities to see each other and share parts of nursery life.
Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space in the appropriate room, we will always look at the options for welcoming brothers and sisters together.
Led by Nursery Manager Emily, our Hengrove team includes experienced Early Years practitioners, many of whom live locally and have been part of the nursery for several years. This continuity helps children and families get to know familiar faces throughout their time with us.
Each child has a key person who takes time to understand their individual needs, interests and development, while our SENCo works closely with families and practitioners to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
