Pippa’s House Ash Vale, a GrandirUK Day Nursery celebrates children’s curiosity and confidence following positive Ofsted outcome

Pippa's House Ash Vale is celebrating a positive Ofsted inspection following its visit on 15 September 2026, which recognised the nursery’s strong approach to children’s learning, communication and language development, and inclusion.

From building imaginative houses with magnetic tiles to getting hands-on with muddy adventures inspired by favourite stories, children are encouraged to explore, ask questions and discover new things every day.

The inspection highlighted an environment where children feel safe, valued and supported to make progress from their individual starting points. Safeguarding standards were met, and the nursery achieved a ‘Strong Standard’ in Achievement, Curriculum and teaching, Inclusion, and Leadership and governance, recognising the team’s commitment to helping every child develop the skills and confidence they need for the future.

Building confidence, communication and independence

At Pippa’s House Ash Vale, everyday experiences are full of opportunities for children to learn something new. Inspectors recognised how children make secure progress as they develop practical skills, grow in confidence and prepare for their next stage of learning.

From learning to use the stairs safely before moving to the rooms upstairs, to mastering cutlery and eventually serving themselves at preschool, children are encouraged to become increasingly independent at a pace that suits their individual needs.

Communication and language are also at the heart of the nursery’s approach. Inspectors noted how children confidently use an increasing vocabulary to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas. This was evident when children worked together to plan and build houses using magnetic tiles, sharing their ideas and using language to organise their play.

Staff make the most of everyday moments to extend learning, too. Whether discussing where food comes from at mealtimes or reinforcing safety practices during transitions, children are encouraged to think, talk and make connections with the world around them.

From muddy bear hunts to Gruffalo Crumble

Storytelling, sensory exploration and imaginative play provide plenty of opportunities for children to get creative at Pippa’s House Ash Vale.

Inspectors highlighted how staff bring familiar stories to life, encouraging children to explore new ideas through hands-on experiences. Inspired by We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, children enjoyed exploring mud, bringing the story into their play and discovering different textures along the way.

In another memorable learning experience, children made ‘Gruffalo Crumble’, exploring the different weights of ingredients and describing the taste as ‘sour’. This simple but engaging activity gave staff opportunities to introduce mathematical concepts, develop descriptive language and encourage children to investigate using their senses.

These experiences reflect the nursery’s purposeful curriculum, which builds on children’s interests to develop curiosity, creativity and communication skills. Staff skilfully extend children’s thinking through questions, conversations and activities that encourage them to experiment, share ideas and discover things for themselves.

Creating an inclusive environment where every child can thrive

Every child has their own interests, strengths and support needs, and Pippa’s House Ash Vale is committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate, learn and make progress.

Inclusion was judged to be at a ‘Strong standard’, with inspectors praising the nursery’s thoughtful approach to identifying and reducing barriers to children’s learning and wellbeing.

One particularly lovely example was the nursery’s approach to supporting children who find wearing prescription glasses challenging. By providing play glasses for all children, staff help make wearing glasses a familiar and inclusive experience, encouraging children to feel comfortable alongside their friends.

The nursery has also developed an accessible sensory room, with specialist resources to help children regulate their emotions and feel ready to learn. Inspectors recognised the benefits of these resources for individual children and the wider nursery community.

A dedicated team helping children make progress

Behind every engaging learning experience is a team committed to understanding children and helping them reach their potential.

Leadership and governance were judged to be at a ‘Strong Standard’, with inspectors recognising leaders’ focus on professional development, teamwork and continuous improvement.

Staff are encouraged to share ideas, ask for feedback and take part in training that strengthens their understanding of children's needs. Leaders carefully tailor professional development to the nursery’s priorities, helping the team provide consistent, effective support.

Strong partnerships with families also play an important role. By sharing information and responding sensitively to changes in children's circumstances, staff help create continuity between home and nursery, supporting children as they settle in and prepare for their next steps.

Helping children feel ready for their next adventure

At Pippa's House Ash Vale, learning is about more than developing new skills. It is about helping children find their voices, build friendships, explore their interests and grow in confidence.

The Ofsted inspection recognised the nursery’s strong approach to achievement, teaching, inclusion and leadership, alongside its continued commitment to improving children's experiences and wellbeing.
