West Finchley Day Nursery and Preschool has been recognised for its warm and supportive environment following its latest Ofsted inspection on 7 May 2026.
Inspectors confirmed that safeguarding standards are met, highlighting a positive and nurturing culture across the nursery, where children feel safe, secure and well supported. The report also recognised the strong relationships children build with staff, enabling them to develop confidence and a positive attitudes towards learning.
A key strength identified during the inspection was children’s overall well-being. Inspectors noted that children enjoy attending the nursery, settle quickly and form secure attachments with their key people. Children were described as curious and engaged learners who confidently explore their surroundings and interact positively with their peers.
The nursery’s approach to communication and language development was also highly praised. Children were observed developing a love of stories and storytelling, while expanding their vocabulary through everyday experiences, meaningful conversations and focused interaction with staff.

The inspection highlighted the strong sense of belonging children experience throughout the nursery. Warm, caring relationships with staff help children feel valued and confident, creating an environment where they can flourish both emotionally and socially.
Children also benefit from a range of enriching learning environments, including a dedicated library, sensory room and art room. These thoughtfully designed spaces encourage exploration, creativity and curiosity while supporting children’s individual interests and development.
A particularly memorable part of nursery life is caring for the nursery’s rabbits. Inspectors recognised how these experiences support children in developing empathy, responsibility and an understanding of how to care for others.
The report also praised the nursery’s inclusive approach. Staff work closely with families and external professionals to ensure children receive the support they need. Strong partnerships with parents help create a shared understanding of each child’s development and next steps in their learning journey.
Leadership was commended for its commitment to high-quality practice, continuous improvement and supporting staff development, helping to create positive outcomes for children across the nursery.
