The benefits of writing for children

Today is National Writing Day celebrating the joy of creative writing.

The preschool children at our Charnwood Day Nursery in Leicestershire, practiced writing their names on top of their wonderful artwork which they created as part of this special day.

The National Literacy Trust have recently published some interesting findings about writing and all its benefits:

• 1 in 3 (34.5%) children and young people said they enjoy writing.
• Writing continues to support children and young people’s mental wellbeing. 2 in 5 (38.3%) children and young people agreeing that writing makes them feel better.
• 1 in 2 children and young people say that they write to be creative (53.0%) or to express their ideas and imagination (48.0%).
