Curriculum

Charnwood follows a comprehensive curriculum which includes key educational programmes such as Health and Self, Innovate and Investigate, Move and Groove, Make and Bake, and Sow and Grow.

Team

At Charnwood Day Nursery, we are proud to have a knowledgeable and experienced team dedicated to supporting each child’s development. Alongside our nursery staff members, we also have an on-site chef and cleaner to support daily operations.

All staff are trained in first aid, and we regularly update their skills. With a couple of on-site SENCos, we are well-equipped to support children with additional needs. Our close-knit, friendly team is committed to providing personalised care for both children and their families.

Parent Partnerships

At Charnwood Day Nursery, we prioritise strong partnerships with families to ensure they feel supported and comfortable leaving their children in our care. Through our nursery app, parents can access their child’s personal account to view photos, track progress, and stay updated on their development. We host various events throughout the year, including Mother’s Day lunches and a Winter Wonderland evening, encouraging families to spend quality time with their children.

We also host Open Days for current and prospective families to gain insight into nursery life, while “Breakfast To-Go” bags help busy families during hectic mornings. Our story sacks can be borrowed for home enjoyment, and we hold two Parents’ Evenings annually for in-depth discussions about each child’s growth.

Playrooms

Our bright and spacious playrooms provide children with the environment they need for a stimulating learning journey. We have three playrooms, and we transition children between them based on their readiness rather than their age.

Baby Room: Located at the back of the nursery, our Baby Room provides a calm and quiet environment, perfect for the youngest children to explore and enjoy in a soothing space.

Nursery Room: This larger room offers plenty of space for active play, including a cosy area for relaxation, encouraging both movement and comfort.

Preschool Room: Situated upstairs, our Preschool Room offers a rich learning environment designed to promote independence.

Activities and Sensory Room: A flexible, calming space designed to support a variety of needs, from sensory-based experiences to quieter moments for communication and regulation.

Garden

Our outdoor garden offers children a space to explore and play, featuring a mud kitchen, mud pit, and a cosy communication-friendly shed for quiet time. We also have a vegetable patch where children participate in Sow and Grow activities, growing vegetables like potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes, and sweetcorn.

Activities

We provide a variety of fun activities, covering all areas of learning, from building obstacle courses to playing hide and seek, allowing children to enjoy physical play and exploration. Alongside physical activities, we incorporate Sing and Sign sessions in the baby room, introducing children to simple signing as an alternative form of communication. In the preschool room, we offer Boogie Mites sessions, combining movement and music for fun, active learning. Our in-the-moment planning approach ensures that activities are based on the children’s current interests, allowing them to play an active role in shaping their day.

Community Outings

We make it a priority to engage with our local community as often as possible, always adhering to the appropriate child-to-staff ratios. Our children have enjoyed trips to nearby parks for outdoor play and exploration, as well as visits to the local library for a fun and educational experience.
