Set on a working farm in White Colne, Pippins is a Montessori nursery and Forest School offering a unique, nature-inspired setting for children aged 3 months to 5 years. Our cosy under-2s room, Montessori classroom, and Forest School area provide rich learning opportunities that support independence, development, memory making and a love of discovery.
We’re an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ nursery with a qualified and experienced staff team who regularly receive training (including paediatric first aid) to provide high-quality childcare and support families.
At Pippins, children thrive through our hands-on educational approach, making magical memories in a safe, engaging space that feels like home.

Our Montessori Day Nursery and Forest School is nestled in the picturesque village of White Colne, on the edge of Colchester in Essex.
The nearest train stations are at Marks Tey and Chappel, and Wakes Colne, making it easily accessible for Essex children and families.

Our curriculum
At our Montessori nursery Colchester, we offer an ambitious, child-centred curriculum rooted in the Montessori approach. Children learn through hands-on experiences, both indoors and outdoors, supported by qualified and experienced staff. Our Montessori approach encourages independence, curiosity, and self-paced learning across all early years stages. Carefully prepared environments and open-ended activities help each child develop socially, emotionally, and academically.
Our team
At our Colchester Montessori day nursery, we’re proud to have a small team of highly qualified and experienced staff committed to providing outstanding childcare. With certified Montessori practitioners, trained Forest School Leads, and dedicated SENDCos, we provide childcare that offers tailored support for all children, including those with additional needs. Our team regularly attend training sessions (including paediatric first aid) to ensure we deliver safe, high-quality early years care.
Parent Partnerships
We believe strong parent partnerships are key to every child’s success. At our Pippins nursery, we offer extensive opportunities for families to stay connected and involved.
Through the Grandir UK app, parents receive regular updates on their child’s day, from activities to developmental progress – this acts as our child and family wellbeing service, keeping you connected every step of the way. Alternatively, our Lending Library and Home Learning Bags help extend learning into the home, while Stay and Play sessions offer a warm welcome for new families. Special event days also invite parents to join in the fun, creating shared memories and strengthening our nursery community.
Our facilities
Parents love that the nursery is quite small and homely and that there is the choice to have the children who are becoming school ready to have sessions between the Montessori Classroom and Forest School.
Parents love the communications that the Famly app provides and that it is clearly a positive and stimulating environment for children.

Playrooms
As a recognised Montessori nursery and Forest School in Colchester, we provide high-quality early years education in carefully designed spaces tailored to each child’s age and stage of development.
Our Colchester Montessori day nursery offers:
Under 2s playroom – for babies aged 3 months to 2 years
Montessori classroom – for children aged 2 to 5 years
Forest School – for preschool children from 32 months
Each classroom is led by qualified and experienced staff, offering extensive learning opportunities through purposeful play and exploration. Children in both the under-2s room and the Montessori classroom enjoy free-flow access to outdoor gardens, encouraging movement, discovery, and connection with the natural world.
Younger children are gently introduced to our Forest School, helping them build confidence before transitioning. As they become school-ready, families can choose sessions across both the Montessori and Forest School rooms to support a smooth next step in their education.
Outdoor space
Outdoor learning is a core part of our educational approach. Our nursery features two outdoor areas directly accessed from the under-2s and Montessori rooms, designed to help children explore, develop, and enjoy new challenges. Our Forest School is set in a separate meadow and woodland area. Here, children experience rich learning opportunities, from using tools and cooking over a campfire to nature walks and sensory play in all weathers.
Activities
Children enjoy regular Boogie Mites sessions, which use music and movement to teach early phonics, including letters and sounds. These lively sessions encourage children to move, sing, and explore rhythm while supporting language, memory, and physical development. We’re also visited and work closely with Dancing Becky, a dance teacher who delivers creative music and movement sessions alongside Melody Bear, her friendly teddy.
