The preschool children decided to mash-up two of their most beloved activities – the Forest School area and the story, “Room on the Broom”! They explored the environment and found large branches to use as their broomsticks and encouraged their peers to join in. The little ones discussed and described main story settings, events and characters before taking a role each to reenact the book. They were particularly excited to construct a giant broomstick for everyone to climb on at the end of the story.
The children hunted through the forest school area to find different ingredients, such as sticks, leaves and feathers, and used large bowls as their cauldrons to mix their potions. They then added ‘magic’ and ‘spells’ to help make their big broom. The children played cooperatively with each other and created their own individual mini broom to take home using small sticks, leaves, feathers and clay.
