Harpenden Day Nursery and Preschool

Our Harpenden Nursery and preschool is small, warm and welcoming with a relaxed, home from home environment, delivering childcare to the highest standards, to support your child’s development.

Curriculum

Our nursery curriculum takes a blended, child-centred approach, designed to cater to each child’s unique learning path. We also incorporate our unique education programmes – Make and Bake, Sow and Grow, Move and Groove, Innovate and Investigate, and Health and Self – each carefully crafted to foster creativity, physical development, and a passion for learning.

Team

Our day nursery has a fantastic Manager who nurtures great team work and is committed to our team’s continued professional growth.

Our highly qualified and long serving team includes SEN level 3 practitioners and first aid trained staff, who are wholeheartedly committed to delivering care and education of the highest standards.

Each child has a key person they can turn to when they are in need of extra support, reassurance and cuddles.

Our dedicated team strive to equip children with the tools, life skills, positivity, and good behaviours needed for school, right from the start to ensure they are filled with the confidence they need to learn, grow and thrive with each step they take with us.

Parent Partnership

We maintain strong parent partnerships through daily contact with our families to ensure you are involved in your child’s day to day life at our nursery in Harpenden.

Our nursery app is a convenient way for families to stay connected and informed about their child’s nursery experience. Through the app, families receive regular updates, including photos of their child’s daily activities and progress. The app enables reciprocal communication for questions and feedback and provides important announcements and reminders about upcoming events. Our aim is to ensure an easy and enjoyable experience for all families.

Alongside the daily updates, we also have parent consultations and termly newsletters to keep you updated on your child’s learning and progress.

We offer stay and play sessions where our families can stay at nursery to play with their child.

Facilities

We provide calm, cosy, bright and well-resourced playrooms, giving children the chance to learn and develop holistically. Our lending library is available to all of our families to extend the learning and enable families to read together at home.

Playrooms

Our playrooms provide a structured learning environment tailored to meet the individual needs of each child in the room.

Our set up allows each child the freedom to explore and discover the calm, cosy, bright and well resourced playrooms, giving them the chance to learn and develop holistically.

The playrooms are loosely structured around age ranges. The oldest children are on the ground floor and enjoy free flow play into our large garden.

Outdoor Space

Our natural garden provides a large outdoor space which supports the children’s early education with a planting area where we grow lots of different fruit, vegetables and plants together.

We have large apple trees where our children love to help collect apples, wash them and cook them daily in our cooking activities, that encourage healthy eating from a young age.

We also have a digging area where our children enjoy looking for worms and discovering nature. We have a climbing frame and trees where children learn, under supervision, to develop their physical skills.

We also have balancing equipment and bikes so children really benefit from being outside being busy bees.

Our older children who are in the ground floor rooms enjoy free flow access between their classrooms and our garden.

Activities

We enjoy a wide variety of activities from singing which helps with communication and language development, through to celebrating a wide variety of festivals and events, such as Christmas, Easter, Spring and other themes and interests around the children.

We also enjoy Make and Bake activities which engages the little ones in making their own food, which they are then more likely to enjoy eating.

Making the food engages their fine and gross motor skills, teaches them about food from different cultures and encourages social interaction as they work in small groups sharing and take turns.

Our Sow and Grow activities encourages each child to engage with nature and the world around them, as well as teaching them where food comes from and how fresh food keeps them healthy.

Community Outings

At our Harpenden Nursery, we believe in the importance of connecting with our local community, which is why we love to take daily walks with the children.

These outings provide wonderful opportunities for children to explore their surroundings, engage with nature, and develop a sense of belonging in their local environment.

Whether visiting nearby parks, local landmarks, or just enjoying a stroll, these daily walks help enrich their learning experiences beyond the nursery setting.
