Little Acorns: Eco-Schools

As part of the Eco-Schools programme, Little Acorns Nursery and Preschool got together with their committee and we discussed what they would like to improve in the garden.

The committee concluded that it would be lovely to have some flowers for the bees. With this in mind, they created an area in their garden for a flower bed, the children helped getting soil and then planting the seeds. The children then watered the seeds to ensure they’re able to grow.

There were discussions had around the process of how the plants grow and what flowers the bees like. The staff and children have waited patiently for the plants to grow and now they have a beautiful garden for their local bees to visit.

As part of the Eco-Schools scheme Little Acorns has been awarded a Bronze Award and now are working towards their Silver Award. Fantastic progress, well done to all involved!

Eco Schools operates in 70 countries and engages 19.5 million young people globally. This makes Eco-Schools the largest educational programme on the planet!

They provide an engaging programme that encourages children to drive change and improve environmental awareness in their nursery, local community and beyond.

After completing the Eco Schools Early Years seven step process, we can apply for Green Flag accreditation, which recognises, rewards and celebrates the environmental achievements of young people.
