The preschool children at Kiddi Caru Whiteley have been discussing going to ‘big school’ soon. So, the staff developed a role play area, displaying the different local school uniforms, fixing a chalk board on the wall space and moving their tables and chairs into the area.
This allowed the children to play together and act out what they think school life will be like. They demonstrated excellent sharing and turn taking to play the teacher and students. Within the area there is an array or mark making opportunities, on both a large and small scale, supporting the children’s interest in writing their own names, and developing an association between the letter shapes and the sounds that go with them.
