Clerkenwell Mount Day Nursery and Preschool celebrates Ofsted ‘Good’ rating

We’ve got some big news, Clerkenwell Mount Day Nursery and Preschool in the heart of Islington has been rated ‘GOOD’ in all areas following its latest Ofsted inspection on 28 July 2025!

This fantastic result is a testament to the dedication, skill, and warmth of our passionate team, who work tirelessly to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for every child. Ofsted recognised the strong leadership, the homely and welcoming feel of the setting, and the thoughtfully designed curriculum that supports confident, curious learners from babies through to preschool.

A welcoming, homely environment where children thrive

From the moment children arrive, they are greeted by warm, responsive staff who make them feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. Secure relationships help build confidence and self-esteem, with children happily engaging in conversations and proudly sharing their thoughts and ideas.

A curriculum built around children’s needs

Staff plan learning based on what each child needs to learn next, with tailored environments for different age groups. Babies explore sensory toys that spark curiosity, while toddlers and preschoolers enjoy hands-on activities that support physical, social, and cognitive development.

Nurturing communication and language skills

Children benefit from rich language experiences through songs, stories, and engaging play. Staff model new vocabulary and, for children who speak English as an additional language, use home languages such as French to aid understanding. While Ofsted noted that giving children more time to respond would further enhance learning, children are confident communicators who love sharing their ideas.

Promoting independence and positive behaviour

Children develop self-help skills at every stage, babies practise self-feeding, toddlers serve their own meals, and older children clear away after lunch. Staff encourage cooperation, turn-taking, and kindness, helping to create a calm and purposeful atmosphere.

Learning beyond the classroom

The nursery team’s commitment to environmental awareness was recognised with a recent award. Children learn about sustainability through activities like recycling and growing their own vegetables. Visitors are also welcomed such as the local police and animal-handling workshops, enriching our curriculum and broadening children’s understanding of the world.

Strong partnerships with parents

Regular stay-and-play sessions, weekly learning summaries, and open communication ensure parents feel connected and informed about their child’s development—something parents told Ofsted had notably improved in recent months.
