To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, we wanted to speak with one of our very own recently qualified staff members to discuss their professional journey and to understand their decision to work in early years.
Introducing Chelsea, a bright and brilliant Nursery Practitioner at our Little Acorns Day Nursery and Preschool in Stoneygate. Read on to hear Chelsea’s story.

“Nursery Practitioner”
What inspired you to work in early years?
When did you start your journey with at Little Acorns?
What do you really enjoy about your role?
What is a typical day like in your role?
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“I particularly enjoy the partnership with parents that I have fostered, this is something I was awarded with at the nursery GrandAwards. I have had amazing opportunities to work alongside some of the most rewarding team members, including my Nursery Manager, Mia.”
Do you have any advice to anyone thinking of starting a career in childcare?
What are you doing/what do you plan on doing for your wellbeing day?
What did you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
“What I enjoyed about my apprenticeship most was being able to explore working with children from each different age group within the nursery, learning about their development and the importance of it. I really enjoyed carrying out my child studies and planning the activities involved, it was really rewarding getting to know individual parents and receiving their positive feedback. During my theory work there were many things that I enjoyed learning about and one of them being the EYFS and the planning of activities around that.”
What advice would you give to anyone considering studying for an apprenticeship?
“I would say go for it! This apprenticeship was one of the was rewarding things I have accomplished. I work at the same nursery where I completed my apprenticeship and the relationships I have created with both the parents and children is unbreakable. I would also say time management is key and ensure you push yourself towards the best you can be!”
