Our nursery team carry out regular ‘Story Sack’ session with the preschool children in the sensory room. These sessions not only help the children’s literacy skills and interests, the books themselves often lead onto important discussions. Recently, the team read the story, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The book is one of the children’s favourite tales. So, they continued their interest and included fruit cards for the little ones to select as they came up in the story.
The children then decided to match the fruit together, incorporating mathematics too. The discussion of fruit also lead onto comparing healthy and bad eating, as well as what food they do and don’t like.
