Q&A with Louise, Regional Support Manager

We recently caught up with Louise, a Regional Support Manager at our Kiddi Caru Day Nursery and Preschool in Walnut Tree who has worked within the business for over 20 years!

At Grandir UK, we believe that a career in early years is one of the most important and rewarding careers you can build. The earliest years of a child’s life can be transformative and builds the foundations not just for school, but for the rest of their life.

Read on for our Q&A with Louise Higgins:

What inspired you to work in early years?

“I went into childcare at the age of 16 and completed my National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB). I had always wanted to work with children from about the age of 9, helping family members with young children and babysitting.”

When did you start your journey with us?

“I started from day one with Kiddi Caru in August 1999 and supported opening the first original Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Walnut Tree Milton Keynes, where I am still based today.”

What do you really enjoy about your role?

“Every day is different, no two days are ever the same and the joy of seeing the children and staff learn, develop, and grow their confidence in a nurturing environment is what I love about my role.”

What is a typical day like in your role?

“Supporting the other nurseries in the region and supporting staff and families with anything they need, always.”

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

“Spending time with the children and families and being a part of a work family. Helping staff to achieve their goals and seeing the children go from babies to graduate for school is such an amazing feeling.”

Do you have any advice to anyone thinking of starting a career in childcare?

“To enjoy your learning and not to worry about being embarrassed when being silly with the children, embrace every moment and if you go home with dirty clothes, you know you have had a really good day.”

What career benefits are there in working for Grandir UK?

“We have our GrandCentral benefits portal which provides us with a variety of discounts at numerous shops, cashback and we get a ‘wellbeing day’ an extra day of leave each year.”

What career ambitions do you still wish to fulfil and why do you believe Grandir UK can give you the opportunity to achieve your ambitions?

“At present becoming a Regional Manager, fully supporting the Nursery Managers and their nurseries to make them as inviting as possible and a great place to work.”

What are you doing/ what do you plan on doing for your wellbeing day?

“I used my wellbeing day for my birthday and spent a lovely family day with my children and grandson.”

We are proud to have nursery teams of authentic and committed employees, whose friendly faces work as one to create a stimulating, nurturing environment where children and our staff mentally and physically thrive every day.
