Children’s wellbeing is considered throughout nursery life at Islington Square Day Nursery. Calm daily routines, nutritious meals and opportunities for active and imaginative play all contribute to a nurturing environment where children can become comfortable, build relationships and enjoy their time at nursery.

Keeping families connected with their child’s nursery day is important to us too. The GrandirUK App provides updates on children’s experiences and development, alongside photos that give families a glimpse into the everyday moments, activities and discoveries that make up their time at nursery.

Children at Islington Square Day Nursery enjoy a variety of creative and engaging activities, with experiences that support early maths, literacy, communication and language development.

Our bespoke education programmes add further opportunities to explore, investigate and discover new things, while regular outings to local parks, the library and fire station extend learning beyond the nursery and help children become familiar with their local Islington community.

Islington Square Day Nursery has five newly refurbished playrooms, each designed around children at different ages and stages. Across the nursery, children have access to natural resources, engaging experiences and outdoor spaces for play and exploration throughout the year.

• Bluebells: A cosy baby room with its own garden, giving our youngest children opportunities to explore indoors and outdoors.
  
  
• Daffodils: A spacious toddler room with free-flow access to its own garden.
  
  
• Poppies: A large toddler room with free-flow access to the main garden.
  
  
• Daisies: A bright space for older toddlers, with resources and experiences that encourage creativity, choice and growing independence.
  
  
• Sunflowers: Our preschool room, with a large, open space for play and purposeful learning alongside experiences that help children prepare for school.

Children move between rooms when they are developmentally and emotionally ready, with our team working closely with families to help children become familiar and comfortable with their new space at their own pace.

Outdoor space

Outdoor play is an important part of life at Islington Square Day Nursery. Our large outdoor area gives children plenty of opportunities to move, explore and investigate, with a climbing frame and slide, mud kitchen and sheltered sand area.

Preschool children also have access to an investigation garden, providing further opportunities to explore, ask questions and make discoveries outdoors.

Our outdoor spaces give children different ways to be active, play creatively, solve problems and explore the natural world throughout the year.

At Islington Square Day Nursery, our experienced team take time to get to know each child, building consistent relationships and responding to their individual routines, interests and needs.

We work closely with families too, sharing information and listening to what matters to them so that we can provide individual care and support throughout each child’s time with us.

Our child-centred curriculum at Islington Square Day Nursery follows the EYFS and draws inspiration from the Curiosity Approach and Hygge, alongside loose parts play and natural resources.

Through play, exploration and purposeful experiences, children are encouraged to follow their interests, make choices and discover new ideas. These experiences give children opportunities to develop communication, problem-solving skills, confidence and growing independence, building foundations they can draw on as they prepare for school.

With support from our team, children are encouraged to develop growing independence and confidence, while enjoying the experiences and discoveries that make learning meaningful throughout their Early Years.

For families with more than one child, having siblings together at Islington Square Day Nursery can make the nursery routine simpler, with one drop-off and pick-up for the family.

Children can enjoy spaces and experiences suited to their own age and stage while remaining part of the same nursery, with opportunities to see each other during the day.

Sibling places are subject to availability, but where we have space, our team will be happy to explore the options for each child.

Nursery Manager Yvonne leads the experienced team at Islington Square Day Nursery. Our team take time to get to know each child, including their interests, routines and individual needs, helping them provide consistent and personalised care and learning.

Throughout the nursery, our Early Years professionals create meaningful experiences that build on children’s interests and give them opportunities to explore, discover new things and develop at their own pace.
