Little Bookworms: September Book Recommendations

Welcome to ‘Little Bookworms’ our online children’s book club! Join us each month to explore a variety of exciting and educational book themes. This month, the theme is science!

Children are born with an intrinsic motivation to explore, question, experiment and discover. The early development of the scientific mind can be seen in a child’s fascination in a disappearing puddle, as they measure a growing flower, or experiment with mixing paint. Our educational programme, Innovate & investigate looks at STEM activities and empowers children to think for themselves; enabling them to become independent, resilient and curious for life. Learn more here.

Spark scientific curiosity this September and take some time to read with your little one.

Read on to view our science themed book recommendations suitable for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

Babies: Maisy’s Science: A First Words Book by Lucy Cousins

Join Maisy as she investigates the world around her. Each spread is themed around different early science concepts; weather, changing seasons, plants and insects, growing, life cycles, parts of the body, textures, sounds and electricity. With bright, colourful, clearly labelled pictures to help broaden vocabulary and understanding and bold, easy-to-use tabs which are perfect for helping little ones to locate their favourite pages again and again. Early learning is so much fun!

Toddlers: ABC Science Book by Anjali Joshi

Give your little scientist a jump-start with this fun, inspiring way to master their ABCs. From astronaut to zoologist, ABC Science Book introduces young children, up to age 3, to basic scientific concepts and careers with each letter of the alphabet.

Preschoolers: Neil Armstrong (Little People, BIG DREAMS) By Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara

Little Neil’s dreams took flight when he rode on his first airplane as a child. After studying aeronautical engineering and time spent in the navy, he became a pilot. From there, he was selected to take a trip to where no human had gone before – the moon! Along with his team, Buzz and Mike, he was the captain of the Apollo 11. And Neil took a giant step for humankind as the first person to ever step onto the surface of the moon. This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the legendary astronaut.
